Washington Herbicide Practice Exam

Gloves are a fundamental component of personal protective equipment (PPE) used during herbicide application. They serve as a barrier between the skin and potentially hazardous chemicals that may be present in herbicides, helping to prevent skin absorption and reducing the risk of exposure. Proper glove selection is crucial to ensure they are chemical-resistant and appropriate for the specific herbicides being used, thereby enhancing the safety of the applicator.

While sunblock is beneficial for protecting skin from UV rays during outdoor work, it does not specifically safeguard against chemicals. Fertilizer and a watering can are not items designed to protect the applicator; rather, they serve different agricultural functions and do not contribute to personal safety while handling herbicides. Therefore, gloves stand out as a necessary element of PPE in the context of herbicide application, emphasizing the importance of safety and health in agricultural practices.
